COOPER COPTER - Aerial Photography

Branding:
COOPER COPTER
Aerial Photography & Unmanned Technologies
COOPER COPTER is an aerial photography and unmanned technologies startup from Hamburg, Germany. Since their founding year 2010 the team has specialized on developing drones and equipment for aerial photography under special conditions.
Story
The startups name is based on the story of D.B. Cooper, a still unresolved criminal case from the 1970s that led to the development of a small piece of aerospace technology today known as the "Cooper Vane".
On a flight from Portland to Seattle Cooper took a Boeing 727 hostage and blackmailed the airline for $ 200.000 in cash. Cooper took the money and escaped by jumping from the plane in flight via a staircase in the back.
This led to the development of the "Cooper Vane", an aerodynamic wedge that makes it impossible for dropping the staircase while the plane is in flight.
Branding
Inspired by the backstory we developed a simple branding based around a modified wordmark. The iconic C was designed with flight rank badges in mind.
