Keepers At the Floating Bridge

I set this short story by my friend, Jami, as an opportunity to practice setting a large amount of type, preparing the book for printing, and ultimately hand binding. I paired the text with Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints to illustrate the dramatic mountain and ocean scenes the author describes. The cover is a collage of scenes from Hokusai’s famous 36 Views of Mount Fuji, while the interior plates are from Hiroshige. Finally, stab binding is a traditional style for binding handmade books in Japan.
