Sky of Time is an exhibition featuring the world-famous Japanese artist Tatsuo Miyajima.
The titular work has been specifically created for the exhibition space at EMMA. The work consists of a number of LED devices, twinkling in the dark room like stars, their ever-changing numerals reflecting on concepts such as infinity and eternity. Miyajima’s choice of the neon green colour was inspired by the northern lights the artist witnessed on his visit to Rovaniemi. The same green was chosen as the main colour of the exhibition’s publication, shining bright like the LEDs of the work. The mechanical letterforms of the typography create a link to Miyajima’s LED numbers, whilst maintaining excellent legibility in small sizes. The layout of the cover is based on the work, its inverted colours beaming from bookshelves, just like Miyajima’s LEDs.

The photographs of the work “Sky of Time” were processed with colour profiles from Color Library, a database developed at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne. This allowed the use of an additional spot colour channel; the same neon green that is used throughout the publication.
