Bathrooms and toilets (UAE)

Interior design of bathrooms and toilets (United Arab Emirates)

The project was designing the interior and the planning of seven toilet rooms/bathrooms in a luxury villa with 4 floors. We were given the dwg files plans and were asked to redo the toilets with a modern style.
The challenges were:
Creating a new design for every floor matching, while keeping in mind that the project is about a luxury villa and the budget isn't going to be a problem.
Very wide space to work with for the toilets, extremely challenging use all of it with not waste.
Coming up with seven different styles of bathrooms all in the same spirit of modern while luxury, but all different at the same time.
Keeping in mind the context and culture as well religious (like islam perhaps) needs for areas like bathrooms and toilets.

The goals were:
The very first goal was to set a tone and a palette for every floor. Each bathroom/toilet had to work in harmony and match the other one in the same floor : The maid bathrooms and the master/owner bathrooms.
Using space very efficiently, no waste. Regular thinking about small space of toilets wouldn't have worked at all in this project.
Creativity is key : getting every style to be extremely different from the others.
Not too provocative and respecting the cultural background.
Our unique solutions were:
Each floor had a style and different material/palette : First floor had a very sober palette with shades of grey, dark blue, some white. We used marble, for a very classical design, but not too heavy to keep the atmosphere warm. Second floor had a pinkish palette, with mostly white and pastel pink and the same applies for the next one though the colours where more of a pastel green, and that one was very classical. Last one, flowery theme with wallpapers, one was darker than the other – those last two were designed to give off the appeasing feeling of flower fields.
Space was used not only for toilet purposes but also for relaxation and reading, maybe also a quick freshening up at the vanities. In the biggest areas, we also added bathtubs and armchairs.
This concept was made in order to give each floor its own identity, going from a sober classical style to a very flowery and simple tone. Every one of them was studied as one and only one work and concept.
We respected the cultural needs, the bathtubs were separated from the toilets by folding walls, in inspiration of the Japanese style.
