I wrestled with this one a lot. Are the rocks too contrasty, are they not contrasty enough, are they too abstract, are they not abstract-y enough... over and over, back and forth. I looked at a lot of rock walls, trying to figure out what would be best for the piece as it was in my head. In the end I combined real rocks with rocks from Sleeping Beauty and Pocahontas. They have a distinct "shelf" like quality that helped me visualize this. Also the pose was hard... i.e., if her head was turned that much would you really even see her nose or just a little "boop" past her cheek, etc etc... but I'm happy in the end. The red ground was decided on last minute, I pictured it very monochromatic except for the pink ribbon and her armor. I'm not even sure I chose the right one, maybe I should have gone with the B&W one, but you just have to commit at some point. Plus not a whole lot of my other pieces look like this so it's kind of refreshing.
