Dr. Kevin McKee's profile

What Is the Aerospace Medical Residency Program?

Dr. Kevin McKee applies his expertise in family and sports medicine as a physician for Franklin Park Physical Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. An experienced aerospace physician, Dr. Kevin McKee also completed a residency program through the Aerospace Medical Association (ASMA).

ASMA is a professional membership organization that represents professionals in the aerospace medicine and human performance fields. ASMA-backed residency opportunities actually consist of five accredited programs: an Air Force program in Ohio, a joint Army and Navy program in Florida, and three civilian programs.

All five residency programs prepare individuals to provide aerospace medical support. For example, aerospace clinicians provide care of flight squadrons or crews at sea or other remote locations, while addressing challenges unique to air or sea environments.

Before enrollment, each program requires completion of an MD or DO program and a year of direct patient care in addition to residency-specific requirements. Although they are similar in this regard, each program differs in its emphasis. For example, the Air Force and Army/Navy programs focus on their respective branches of military service, while the three civilian programs prepare residents to serve in civilian aerospace institutions.
