End The Stigma Campaign 2019; Posters

End The Stigma Campaign
Exploring the stigma around the LGBTQIA+ community in NZ
Exploring that stigma's effect on LGBTQIA+ community in NZ

These are some poster designs that I created for the above campaign in Semester 2 2019.
Poster 1: Still A Boy, It's not 'Just A Phase'
This poster is to raise awareness of the stigma surrounding the transgender community, specifically the trans-man/trans-masc/FTM community. Trans men don't have to 'pass' as men/masculine for their identity to be valid, they don't have to go through medical transition to be valid, and their feelings are not a 'phase' - the bra is to represent the body that most trans masculine people are born in, and that their body does not define their gender.
It is so important to affirm people's gender, whether they fit the 'normal' expression of their chosen gender or not; it's vital to people's mental health to be recognised as the person that they are.
This poster is also designed to stand in solidarity with transgender people - trans people will see this poster and hopefully get the message quite quickly.

Poster 2: Still  A Girl, It's not 'Just A Phase'
This poster is to raise awareness of the stigma surrounding the transgender community, specifically the trans-women/trans-femme/MTF community. Trans women don't have to 'pass' as female/feminine for their identity to be valid, they don't have to go through medical transition to be valid, and their feelings are not a 'phase' - the underwear is to represent the body that most trans feminine people are born in, and that their body does not define their gender.

Poster 3: LGBTQIA+ Suicide Awareness
In contrast to the previous posters, this poster is stark and has bold colours to highlight the seriousness of the topic. Mental health and suicide is an important part of this campaign, and I wanted to highlight that in this poster. Suicide in itself is a taboo topic as it is, and suicide in the LGBTQIA+ is even more taboo in general society. This poster is designed to shock people and let people know that their words have power, as well as to highlight an important statistic.
Poster 4: Stigma Definiton
As the title of the campaign is 'End The Stigma', it was important to explain what stigma means. This poster does this simply and effectively and with a serious tone, highlighted by the colour scheme.
Poster 5: Be Loud, Be Proud, Be Yourself
This poster was designed to be a strong affirmation towards the LGBTQIA+ community, telling them that it's okay to be proud of yourself; be unapologetic, because your identity is valid. One factor in the negative mental health of LGBTQIA+ people in New Zealand is feeling that they cannot be themselves because of fear of violence, being disowned, being excluded and being made to act 'straight' or 'cisgendered' at work, at school or within their families. This poster is a rallying call to all LGBTQIA+ people to be themselves and to be proud of it.
