The brief for this project was to re-design a series of 3 books for the ‘penguin classics collection’.

 

I tried to capture the feeling of the books and wanted them to appeal to people who already knew the stories as collectors items, with small hints to the story concealed within the design, for example on the IT cover the dot on the ‘i’ represents the blood red balloons that IT carries around, and the slash marks on the cover of The Shining are from where the husband tries to hack through the wooden bathroom door.

 

There are also extra items/bookmarks hidden in the spine of the books, such as a paper boat seen in the opening scene for IT, a hairpin for picking locks from Misery and a key for ‘red room’ in The Shinning.
