你是谁?Who Are You?: Solo Exhibition

你是谁?Who Are You?
Who Are You? Is the summation of my 2-month-stay in Zhujiajiao, Shanghai, China. It is a self reflective visual diary encircling my ruminations as an ethnically Chinese foreigner in China. All works as well as promotional material were illustrated and designed by me.
Who Are You? is the eponymous piece which lends to the feeling of alienation in a foreign context. This piece proposes that in such moments of dissonance, the look of befuddlement is shared by both parties and not just the foreigner.

These were inspired by the layered expressive potential of Chinese calligraphy art. A master once shared with me that you'd have to master all the technical skills of calligraphy before your work starts to reflect your beliefs. I explored this concept with my own practice, looking to express my inner thoughts through lines that were more expressive than figurative. The seal applied to each work is reminiscent of the ornamental seals used on calligraphy work as a decorative watermark.
