The focus for the year is on the production of crisis – a process to promote reflection on current restrictive practices in society leading to the awakening of a critical consciousness towards emancipation, using the transformative practice of philosophy, art, architecture or politics.

Brief - Design a structure for yourselves as activist|architects, to be lived in for 3 months over the summer of 2020 on a recently designed square in central Skopje. Project 1 took place during the first 6 weeks of semester. 

My initial research into Skopje revealed that natural disasters had a prominent effect on the city throughout its history and played a crucial role in its present identity. I developed a more personal brief to address this. The final design became a temporary home for use in post disaster situations. A hybrid system utilising traditional timber joinery aided with CNC production which resulted in a shelter with all the comfort of a small home, that could be manufactured and constructed within 24 hours. Rather than a temporary shelter the design provides a home whilst permanent houses are rebuilt. Complimenting the design was a 3 week workshop designed to educate a group in the local community regarding disaster preparedness.
