Discovery of H1N1, 10 Year Anniversary

NAVAL HEALTH RESEARCH CENTER (NHRC), Operational Infectious Diseases team (OID), discovered and typed H1N1 back in 2009.

When the news of the pandemic broke, the Navy stayed in the shadows receiving minimal credit for catching the virus early. As NHRC continues to be an integral organization in protecting the health and readiness of U.S. service members through conducting active surveillance and characterizing identified pathogens, the public affairs team wanted to make sure our successes are highlighted.

This lead to the decision to reflect on the anniversary of the pandemic and conduct a series of interviews with part of the OID team who worked tirelessly through it. The video and a follow up story helped to publicize the capabilities of the lab and draw increased media attention during the current pandemic.

The original footage was shot by me using a Sony DSLR, boom mic, and an LED lighting set up. Initial video was edited in Adobe Premiere then taken into After Effects to add lower thirds, outro, intro, transitions, photos, and music. The music in this video is attributed to Universal Music Production and there are approved photos from the U.S. Navy as well as free stock virus images.
