Social media subconsciously controls and manipulates us on a daily basis.
We scroll randomly through our feed and waste a lot of time. But everyone likes
to join in, because we are addicted to the feelings of happiness that Instagram
and Co. generates. Algorithms determine for us which contents are shown to us
longer than others. They tell us wether you see something or not. Even if we
are aware that we are trapped, addiction lets us fall back into the same scheme.
The result is the semester project »OFF REALITY«. The course theme was
»Ich, Ich, Ich – glasshouses of self-assertion and cathedrals of ourselves« and
illuminates the urge and compulsion to self-representation in the social media, the
question of an identity and the sensitivities of Generation Z.
